Generally, two mating surfaces of the flanges have microscopic irregularities on their surfaces. In order to fill those microscopic irregularities, a mechanical rubber gasket is used so as to prevent
leakages from or into the joined objects while under compression. Such a gasket is called a flange rubber gasket. Flange gaskets act as a static seal between the two irregular flange faces and are made to
operate under various operating conditions with varied pressure and temperature ratings.
